Things to do in Winter

At the moment we find ourselves with short days and long nights in the middle of a pandemic which makes everything very hard for everyone.

It's sometimes hard to keep ourselves occupied in this winter period so here are some things so might want to try out.

Go and see the Christmas lights. Almost every town and city in the

The UK has Christmas lights on display at the moment. London is a popular destination to see the lights as at moment they have a variety of shows in and around London including colourful nights at Canary Wharf, Winterfest at Wembley Park, and Christmas at Kew Gardens. Some of these you have to book but if you just want to have a casual outing I recommend Regents and Oxford Street and central London to see their displays.

Go for winter walks. The weather at the moment is cold but it doesn't stop your walks from being beautiful. Nature is so wonderful, go out and enjoy it. Most national trust places have cafes so you can buy yourself a hot drink before you head off on your walk.

Watch some Christmas films. Streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon prime both have many great family-friendly Christmas films to watch. Some of my favorites include 'Arthur Christmas', 'the grinch' and 'Nativity!'

If you haven't already decorated your home and bedroom. With Christmas only 12 days from Christmas it's the perfect time to get into the Christmas spirit. Fairy lights and simple decorations make you feel massively in the mood for Christmas. Dried fruit such as oranges is not only sustainable and eco-friendly but they are fun to make and give off an excellent scent.

Roast chestnuts. Roasted chestnuts are a family favorite in our home. You can find chestnuts very easily in woodland areas of the UK. If you are interested in doing this here is a recipe which is from BBC good food.

  1. Cut the shell carefully Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Lay the chestnuts on their flat sides and, …

  2. Roast for 30 mins until split Place in a roasting dish large enough to have one layer of chestnuts, …

  3. Cool, peel, and serve

Although January and the new year aren't for a while, it's important to set ourselves New Years Resolutions. New year new me! Some people like to completely re-invent themselves however some choose subtle goals. Some popular goals that you can get inspiration from are below.

  1. Save money and Spend less

  2. Exercise more and eat healthier

  3. Quit bad habits

  4. Read more

  5. Get and stay organised

  6. Learn a new skill or hobby

  7. Become more productive and helpful

  8. Get better sleep

  9. Spend more time with family and friends

  10. Become more environmentally friendly.

Send Christmas Cards to friends and family. This is such a simple way to show the ones who you care about you love them.

Light a fire. Use old wood that's been dried out for your fire's fuel to keep you warm and cozy all winter.

Go for a Christmas picnic. Why not make a new tradition this Christmas and go for a picnic at a nice place with a view. Wrap up warm with gloves, hats and jumpers, and maybe even blankets. You will have great fun as long as it doesn't rain!

Listen to your favorite Christmas and winter music. This special season doesn't last forever so make the most of the music whilst you can. If you can play an instrument play some Christmas music and if you can't why not learn!
