How to personalise your wardrobe

For me, fashion is a way our personality can shine through without communication or words. It has such a power to create an identity, but making your style unique and personal can be hard and often we are not sure where to start. I like to personalise my wardrobe to stand out and make a statement and hopefully, I can inspire you to do the same.

1) Patches

Iron on patches are an easy and fun way to customise clothing. They can easily be applied to denim and with a wide variety and choice, they are a fun way to get fun and creative with your clothing. KOO patches are where I got mine from and with thousands to choose from there is something for everyone and something you will love. They look amazing on denim clothing, particularly jackets but they can be applied anywhere.

2) laces

I love shoes but buying new ones all the time isn't all that ethical! I have a few pairs of shoes which I like to switch the laces out of to make have a new and exciting feel to them. You can bulk buy laces off amazon in hundreds of colours to make your shoes individual and unique. I also like to purposely match my laces with the outfit I'm wearing that day. Another thing you can do if you are undecided on what colour lace the thread then I sometimes thread two. It can be hard but hold both ends together and treat them as one and push the ends through the eyelet separately so that they fit.

3) mismatch shoes

Okay, this one may seem a bit controversial but honestly, it's a huge game-changer for me! I have a fair few pairs of converse and so I like to mix the colours of them. Admittedly I haven't tried this one with different types of shoes but if you do own a few of one type it's worth taking the risk especially if you can find another pair for cheap. I managed to get 2 pairs of converse on the site vinted for £11 so it's definitely worth having a look at!

4) painted

One for the art people. If you have the skills to paint any item of clothing it can make it really unique and individualistic for you. You can choose to do anything and it can look good on anyone. I think T-shirts and plain shoes always look good painted. If you are not the artist (like me!) you can get a friend to do it for you, or just take a gamble because then it could be abstract art as some say!

5) Add extras on.

Sometimes an item of clothing is missing that special something to make it stand out. You can easily change this by adding extra items. One idea is cutting things off one item of clothing and sewing it onto another or if you find an accessory you like the look of adding it on by pinning it or sewing it to make it stand out and add an individual personality!

Some ideas include zips, pockets from other items, and bows.

6) Cropping

Contradictory to the last idea, cropping jeans, t-shirts and jumpers to make them fit better or have a more relaxed fit for summer is a great way to show off your confidence and character. Heading towards the summer, cutting trousers into shorts is such a great idea as you can choose how long or short they are making them completely individual and something no one else is going to have. Charity shops often host many jeans that are perfect on my waist but too long on my legs so this gives me an opportunity to still enjoy the product but just in a new and different way.

7) Similar to cropping, you can just cut out certain areas to give it a more open look on the arms or back allowing your t-shirt to have a more comfortable and relaxed look.
