Glow Wild, Wakehurst: a review

For the 7th year in a row Glow wild puts on a magical set of illumination and lights for members of the public to enjoy. Despite being in Tier 4 of the pandemic the event has been allowed to stay open. Safety measures are taken seriously and you are required to wear a mask around the trail along with maintaining social distancing between your groups. The mile-long trail takes you around the beautiful park of Wakehurt which is linked to Kew gardens. When you arrive, you will be signed in and then each family gets to take around colourful lanterns with them to which adds to the amazing experience.

The beautifully, enchanting walk takes you to visit lanterns, projections, lights scuplture and fire torches with the whole event being accompanied by peaceful and tranquil sounds of birds and nature. Wakehurt has managed to create all forms of the great British wildlife and allows us to see birds, insects, and native woodland animals such as foxes all as incredibly detailed light sculptures. The pandemic meant that the numbers of the event had been limited which was great. It allowed us to take our time and fully enjoy everything that was around us which was really lucky.

Crowd control was managed well and the marshals encouraged people to continue moving so everyone could move through the event. This was particularly done well overlooking the lake with the house. You get an opportunity to take photos of the fire torches and main house and you don't feel rushed in the experience at all.

The main focus of the event is the house which you can see from almost every part of the trail. The spectacular house is projected with colourful and wonderful images and videos. The house is surrounded by lanterns and the 100+ ft tree is in the background of all your pictures. It's worth staying to watch the whole projections as they are extraordinarily magical and really has that festive and Christmas feel.

The weather, having been bad, meant that some of the areas were very muddy and slippery. I would recommend wearing suitable footwear for this type of weather. In addition despite it being a light show some areas are fairly dark and hard to see, so be aware of this.

Overall the experience was extremely positive. I would recommend it to anyone. The event runs until January 10th, 2021.
